Davis Retains Lightweight Title
Garcia Suffers First Loss
In a battle of undefeated superstars in the primes of their careers, Gervonta "Tank" Davis stopped Ryan "King" Garcia with a fierce body shot in round seven of their highly anticipated lightweight title fight on Saturday night.
Davis, the five-time world champion, controlled the fight from the opening bell, using his superior footwork and power to keep Garcia at bay. Garcia, who was making his lightweight debut, showed flashes of brilliance but was unable to consistently trouble Davis.
The end came in round seven when Davis landed a devastating left hook to Garcia's body. Garcia crumpled to the canvas in pain and was unable to continue.
With the victory, Davis retained his lightweight title and improved his record to 28-0 with 26 knockouts. Garcia suffered his first professional loss and dropped to 23-1.
The fight was a huge success, with a sold-out crowd in the nation's capital and millions more watching on pay-per-view. It was a showcase of two of the most exciting young fighters in the sport, and Davis's victory only served to enhance his status as one of the pound-for-pound best.
